Player Spotlight: Taylor Goode

If you face the task of playing both with and against a handful of Division I-bound players every day in practice, your approach is simple: adapt or perish. St. Anthony’s sophomore guard, Taylor Goode, chose the former.

“Playing with [teammates Tyla Parham, Chastity Taylor and Charise Wilson] makes the younger players better,” Goode said of chasing the three seniors around every day for two hours. “I’m always practicing with Division I and high Division II players, so I’m [forced to] have confidence and improve.”

Goode’s improvement throughout the season has increased as her responsibility has. In the NSCHSAA semi-finals against St. John the Baptist, Goode scored 13 points, leading the second and third units against members of SJB’s starting five and maintaining the 30-point lead amassed by St. Anthony’s starters. But she’s also gotten her feet wet during close games, which is more indicative of where she’ll be next season as one of the team’s primary weapons. Goode’s three point shot is developing and she’ll have giant shoes to fill at the point guard spot, left by the graduation of Parham.

“She’s getting a lot of valuable experience now,” said St. Anthony’s Head Coach, Ken Parham. “This will be her show next season; she and [fellow sophomore Jayla Jones-Pack] will have major roles.”

Both Goode and Jones-Pack are on a learning crash course, albeit with the former embracing a sixth woman role and the latter starting. The duo will make major strides over the summer, with both already securing offers from Fordham University.

“I will have a closer bond with my teammates this summer because the seniors are leaving,” Goode Said. “We’ll work out two to three times per week and play Riverside [AAU].”

“I want to develop my passing and ball handling,” Goode said of her future role as a floor general. “I will learn to see the court better.”
