Player Profile: Jayla Jones-Pack

At this point, it’s all about experience for St. Anthony’s sophomore forward, Jayla Jones-Pack. Anchoring the post on a senior-laden Friars squad, Jones-Pack knows that the next two seasons will see her at the forefront of upholding a winning tradition.

“This is my first year starting and it’s making me a better player,” said the Amityville native. “I have a big role with blocks, rebounds and inside scoring.”

Although the trio of seasoned seniors in the back court handle a large volume of the scoring, Jones-Pack has her hands full under the boards. And that load is about to get heavier over the summer and into next season.

“It’s her show next season, along with all the others who are returning,” said St. Anthony’s Head Coach Ken Parham. “She’s got valuable experience now. She works hard and understands the game.”

Long and athletic, Jones-Pack will find herself surrounded by talented guards once again, and must continue to do the dirty work and tweak her post play to maintain the Friars’ steady roll of dominance in the NSCHSAA. She’ll have the opportunity to both improve and expand this summer while playing and traveling with both the Riverside AAU program and NYC Exodus.

“I really want to work on my handle,” the 6’3” forward said. “My post moves, too. And definitely my shot.”

Jones-Pack currently holds an offer from Fordham University.
